Scope
The FileActionInitiation message can be initiated by any party and received by any party (acquirer, agent or issuer). This message is used to inquire, add, change, delete or replace a file or a record.Outline
The FileActionInitiationV04 MessageDefinition is composed of 43 MessageBuildingBlocks:
- Header — Information related to the protocol management.
- Message Reason — Reason or purpose to send the message. The ISO 8583 maintenance agency (MA) manages this code list.
- Alternate Message Reason — Supports message reason codes that are not defined in external code list.
- File Action Scope — Scope of file action.
- File Action Type — Type of file action. P000-P999 reserved for private use, N000-N999 reserved for national use.
- Transaction Description — Transaction data related to programmes and services, content and format based on bilateral agreements.
- Continuation — Indicates that batch or collection is not complete.
- Originator — Identifies the originator of the transaction.
- Acquirer — Identification of the acquirer.
- Sender — Party sending the message to another intermediary agent or to the final destination.
- Card — Card or payment token performing the transaction.
- Receiver — Party receiving the message from the origin or from an intermediary agent.
- Issuer — Information related to the issuer.
- Destination — Identifies the destination of the transaction.
- Programme — Programme, network, or brand processes the transaction.
- System Trace Audit Number — Number assigned by a transaction originator to assist in identifying a transaction uniquely. The trace number remains unchanged for all messages within a two-message exchange (for example, request/repeat and response)
- Transmission Date Time — Date and time expressed in UTC of the message as sent by the initiator.
- Retrieval Reference Number — A reference supplied by the system retaining the original source information and used to assist in locating that information or a copy thereof.
- Life Cycle Identification — Transaction lifecycle identification
- File Name — Identification of the file.
- Format — File format code. P000-P999 reserved for private use, N000-N999 reserved for national use.
- Data Record — Content of record to be added, updated, deleted or replaced.
- Action Date — Date when the file action should be performed.
- File Security Code — Indicates that the originator of the message is authorised to update the file.
- Correction — Identifies that this batch or collection is a corrected version of a batch or collection that was previously sent.
- Acceptor — Card acceptor performing the card transaction. A Terminal

- The party receiving funds . — AE Token . Details of payment token. AF CustomerDevice . Identification of the customer device performing the transaction. A Wallet
- Container for tenders used by the customer to perform the payment transaction . — A Cardholder

- Fees not included in the transaction amount . — AL Reconciliation . Identification of the reconciliation period between the acquirer and the issuer or their respective agents. A ResponseCode
- Response code defined in ISO 8583 . — A ProtectedData
- Contains protected data and the attributes used to protect the data . — A PrivateData
- Reserved for private data . The use of this data element is determined by bilateral agreement . — AP NationalData . Reserved to define data unique to the country applications. A SecurityTrailer
